HENTON BALMORAL TAKES OUT HIS FIRST HORSE TRIAL WIN ! Posted on Tuesday 31st January, 2012

Henton Balmoral (Contendro I / Distancia by Distelfink) most capably ridden by Sim Kann and owned by the Balmoral Eventing team, won the training class at Woodhill Sands at the weekend. At only his second start, the four year old impressed the dressage judges and jumped clear cross country and showjumping in impressive style. This is a very exciting young horse for the future, as it will be some time before he develops his full strength. Henton Lodge wishes Sim and Balmoral Eventing all the best with this stunning young horse.

HENTON FIRST EDITION UNDERSADDLE AND SHOWING HUGE PROMISE Posted on Tuesday 31st January, 2012

Henton First Edition (For Edition / Henton Ambiance by Anamour) is now well undersaddle with Donna Smith. Donna is most impressed with his "natural" jump and his bidable temperament. Although only three years old he is schooling well ahead of his age. This horse when a foal, won the "best foal" at the Hanoverian Showcase, when put in front of the commission headed by Jochen Wilkens from Germany. He is the first foal from the Anamour mare, Henton Ambiance, who competed lightly eventing before being sold to a dressage barn, where she was very sucessful until an accident lead her back to Henton Lodge. In line with Henton Lodge policy, all boys are for sale, we are now pleased to offer this young, very exciting horse to the market at $30,000.00 including GST. (Photos coming)

HENTON EXECUTIVE 2ND AT PUHINUI CCI** THREE DAY EVENT Posted on Thursday 15th December, 2011

Puhinui 2011Smith+B5303

Henton Executive, most capably ridden by Donna Smith, at the Puninui International Three Day Event in the CCI** class placed second. This was a fantastic result for such a young horse, inexperienced at the riggors of eventing. The combination were 12th in the field of 24 after the dressage (showing his lack of experience), but 3rd after achieving clear cross country time and jumping. They show jumped clear to complete the three days on their dressage score in 2nd place, behind Donna Smith's other CCI** horse - what a fantastic weekend for Donna and her team.

HENTON FIRST EDITION STARTING UNDER SADDLE Posted on Thursday 1st December, 2011

Henton First Edition - For Edition / Henton Ambiance (Anamour) at 3 years old, is starting under saddle. This will be a very exciting young horse for the future. By the performance test wining stallion For Edition to give him the jump and movement and from the Anamour/ Thoroughbred Henton Ambiance to add to the movement with a little bit of Thoroughbred in for good measure to ensure he gallops. This gelding who won the foal classification by the German Hanoverian representative, who has the most fantastic temperament - our 15 year old daughter is starting him - will make the ideal event or showjumping horse. Updates when he is ready to be shown.

HENTON BALMORAL PLACES AT VERY FIRST START Posted on Friday 18th November, 2011

Nov 2011 Wareanga Kann+B0997

Henton Balmoral, a four year old by Contendro I from the Distelfink mare Distancia, owned by Donna Smth and Simone Kann, competed at the weekend in his very first horse trial, ridden by Simone, and received his very first placing. "Carlos" to his friends, did a lovely dressage test and jumped cross country and showjumping clear. This tall very exciting young horse for the future, is still extreemly immature, and will take a year or two to grow into his promised stature. He has the temperament, movement and jump to develop into a very special horse. We wish Donna and Sim all the best in the future with this exciting Henton horse.

HENTON EXECUTIVE TAKES OUT TOUGH INTERMEDIATE AT WAERENGA HORSE TRIAL Posted on Monday 14th November, 2011

Eric at Woodhill 10-11+A6997

Henton Executive and Donna Smith won the Intermediate class at the "Spurs of Counties" horse trial at Waerenga. The cross country was of maximum size and asked some very difficult technical questions over Graham Smith's beautiful rolling course. Eric just took it all in his stride and proceeded to show jump clear to take the win. We hugely congratulate Donna, Eric and the Balmoral Eventing team for a fantastic win. Eric now has accumulated Advanced points and at only eight years old, this is quite an achievement - but in Donna's words "he is ready for it"! Congratulations to the Henton Executive Syndicate for this fantastic win with their horse.

HENTON LODGE CONNECTION WITH DRESSAGE OLYMPIC QUALIFIERS Posted on Monday 14th November, 2011

Huge congratulations to the NZ dressage for qualifying a team for next years Olympic Games - a real first for NZ. One of the horses qualified, Antonello ridden by Louisa Hill, is very closely related to the Henton Lodge broodmare Henton Anastasia. Henton Anastasia is by Anamour (as is Antonello) and is from the Distelfink mare Distelene who was from Pharleen. Antonello's dam Flair is also from Pharleen. Henton Lodge currently has for sale a yearling filly by Landro L (who competed very sucessfully with Christine Weal) from Henton Anastasia. This filly has extravagent movement,, and with the touch of jumping blood from Distelfink, would have a very sucessful dressage career!

GREAT START TO THE SEASON FOR HENTON EXECUTIVE Posted on Monday 7th November, 2011

Henton Executive and Donna Smith showed the experience, the 8 year old horse, gained from last season has held them in good stead with a very close 2nd placing at Woodhill Sands CIC **. Donna and Eric were 3rd after the dressage and show jumped clear. Their cross country run over Chris Ross’s strong FEI track was impressive. They were only second by .9 of a time fault behind Donna’s other CIC** ride Balmoral Sensation.

HENTON ATTORNEY GENERAL'S DEPARTURE FOR ENGLAND DELAYED Posted on Monday 25th April, 2011

Lizzie Brown's plans for Henton Attorney General have suffered a minor setback when he sustained an injury to a leg while competing at the Kihikihi Horse Trial. Initially after they, most uncharacteristically parted company, it was believed neither horse nor rider sustained any injury but it was later revealed Frank had knocked himself around. Lizzie and Push Play left for England as planned. Frank will undergo some rest and will shortly be put back into very light work and will join Lizzie in England at some later date. We wish Lizzie and Push Play all the best and Frank a speedy recovery.

2010 FILLY BY SATISFACTION FOR HENTON LODGE Posted on Monday 25th April, 2011

Web size_MG_5031

Henton Lodge are very excited about the birth of our first foal by the outstanding Stakatto son Satisfaction. Satisfaction typifies the most modern jumping bloodlines to be found in Europe. This is a particularly elegant, long legged filly with beautiful movement who has the jumping bloodlines to die for. She is from the Distelfink mare Distancia, who sucessfully jumped to Grand Prix. The filly was recently crowned the "top jumping bred filly of the tour of Gerhard Seckenburg" the representative of the German Hanoverian Society. This filly, being the only one obtained by Henton Lodge from the mare, will be retained for competition and to add valuable bloodlines to the broodmare band.

Web sizeMG_4777

Henton Lodge are very proud to have for the first time in four years, a foal from the dam of Henton Attorney General - in fact we have a girl "mini me". With thanks to Lee Morris of Equibreed, Delphi is back on the breeding register. The rather large filly has the same unflapable temperament of Frank and his huge ears. We look very much to retaining her first in competition then to our breeding programme.

HENTON ATTORNEY GENERAL TAKES OUT CIC*** AT HORSE OF THE YEAR AND HENTON EXECUTIVE PLACES IN CIC** Posted on Thursday 24th March, 2011

Wow what a Horse of The Year for the Henton Eventing team! Henton Attorney General and his part owner Lizzie Brown took out the nail biting CIC Three Star class. Lizzie and Frank went into the showjumping in second place behind Bronze Medal team member at the World Equestrian Games, Clarke Johnston and his WEG mount Orient Express. Lizzie and Frank show jumped clear putting the pressure on Clarke on his Thorougbred, who unfortunately for Clarke, dropped two rails giving Henton Attorney General the win !! This followed on from their win recently at the Hunua Horse Trial in the Advanced/Intermediate class. But also to the fore at the Horse of the Year was the syndicated Henton Executive, Eric to his friends, most capably ridden by Donna Smith, who finished fourth in the CIC ** event. This is most creditable as the horse only started eventing in September last year - and is now placing at 2* level. This is really a horse for the future and with the experience of the ride from Donna Smith - well watch this space ! Henton Lodge Hanoverians would like to warmly congratulate Lizzie and Frank and Donna and Eric on their tremendous performances as the Horse of the Year Show 2011 !!

HENTON FOR FUN HEADS TO THE STABLE OF WILLIAM FOX-PITT !! (Photo courtesy of Quality N Z Horses) Posted on Tuesday 21st December, 2010

Henton For Fun

The lovely four year old, Henton For Fun has been sold to leading English event rider William Fox-Pitt. Henton For Fun was sold some months ago to Jesse Campbell, who has made the big decision to base himself in England and has put his team on the market to fund the trip. William Fox-Pitt has chosen to purchase the For Edition / Galatoire (by Genius) bay gelding to add to his stable of up an coming event horses. Henton For Fun has not yet competed, so William has purchased the young horse on breeding, type, temperament and potential alone. Henton Lodge wishes William all the best and we look forward to following their success going forward.

HENTON ATTORNEY GENERAL TAKES OUT CCI *** AT PUHINUI Posted on Tuesday 14th December, 2010

Pallisade at Puhinui - low res

The gorgeous Henton Attorney General and his rider and part owner Lizzie Brown, firmly secured the top class the Auckland Council CCI*** title at the Puhini Three Day Horse Trial at the weekend! Frank and Lizzie were only 2.4 penalties ahead of the consistent Emily Butcher and Southern Ben after the dressage. On cross country day, the pair blitzed around the three star track, like it was a pony club outing, being one of only two horses to come in under time. By the time they got to show jump on Sunday the pair were that far ahead of the competition they had four rails in hand. What a fantastic result for Henton Attorney General, Lizzie Brown and her connections and Henton Lodge as part owners. What next for this very exciting combination !!! At the weekend also Henton After Dark added to his Richfields success with a third placing in the Horse and Pony Pre Novice Three Day Championship class and Henton Executive finished a very creditable 9th in the NRM CCI* class, at his first three day event competition. Well done to Samantha Felton and Donna Smith respectively.

A great effort and well done all three fantastic riders!

THREE HENTON HORSE IN THE MONEY AT TAUPO Posted on Thursday 28th October, 2010

At the recent Taupo Horse Trial, three Henton horses were in the money! Henton Attorney General was second in the Advanced Intermediate class, with Lizzie Brown. Henton Executive was second in his Novice class with Donna Smith, which is most commendable as this is only the combinations 4th horse trial! Dannie Lodder and the five year old Henton Faberge, were 3rd in the training class. What a great result for the Henton Lodge Hanoverian team !!!

Dot and Eric Te Rapa Oct 2010 web size

At the weekends Te Rapa, Hamilton, horse trial, the 7 year old syndicated Henton Executive, under Donna Smith, won his first Pre Novice start. Eric to his friends, has only had one previous horse trial with Donna at Training level three weeks ago, since changing from his previous ownership and discipline of showjumping - so a fantstic result for such a green cross country horse - Donna was escatic with his attitude! Henton Faberge and her accomplished rider Dannie Lodder, nailed the Young Event class with a second placing after dressage, clear show jumping and clear cross country. Dannie was also hugely complimentary about the cross country ride the 5 year old gave her - after her few limited starts she now really knows her job. An exciting pair to watch for the balance of the season !!

Henton Attorney General and Lizzie Brown finished in fourth place at the recent Taupo Three Day Event at Three Star level. Lizzie and Frank were second after the dressage, but only by 0.2 behind the wonderful Gordon and Alice Montgomery. Cross country unfortunately saw Gordon and Alice have a mishap. Lizzie and Frank had a fantastic clear jumping round with the course asking a significant number of questions - especially the water. But unfortunately they incurred an uncharateristic number of time faults, after Lizzie had a technical error with her stopwatch - she believed their time was OK ! The pair went on to show jump clear in style on the Sunday. Oh but for the technical time fault issue - but that is eventing !!

Kihikihi 2010

Sam Felton with her beautiful black Henton After Dark (Anamour / Distelfink), Albert to his friends, had a hugely successful weekend at the Mitavite International Kihikihi Horse Trial over Easter weekend. They romped home to win the pre-novice class with style. This combination has not been together for long so it was a very commendable effort. It is also worthy of note that Sam also won another of the Pre Novice classes on her other horse Ricker Ridge Pico Boo. Sam is now representing her Northland Pony Club at the Pony Club Champs - we wish them well.

HENTON FABERGE SHOWS CLASS AT HER FIRST HORSE TRIAL Posted on Saturday 10th April, 2010

Dot March 2010 Web Size

Henton Faberge (For Edition / Genius) at four years old competed at her very first Horse Trial at Waitemata. She was capably ridden by Dannie Lodder to win the dressage phase by 6 points - she has stunning movement and ridabililty. A show jump rail due to greenness gave her an extra 4 points, but she was still in the lead. Unfortunately another green moment at the first cross country fence put her out of contention - but when she realised exactly what she was out on the cross country track to do - she took to it like a professional. She will be one to watch in the future. Henton Faberge is to be retained by the stud, but her year younger brother Henton For Fun has just completed being broken in and is for sale.

HENTON AFTER DARK SHINES AT PONY CLUB DRESSAGE CHAMPS Posted on Thursday 18th February, 2010

In the Championship class "Albert" scored 71.18% to finish effectively 5th in New Zealand (when comparing scores for the equivalent South Island competition). They also won their Preliminary, Novice and Elementary tests and gained placings in two others, giving them Reserve Pony Club Championship Hack for the whole of New Zealand !!! What a fantastic achievement. Sam and Albert will now roll into the autumn eventing season. Henton Lodge wishes them luck.

HENTON ATTORNEY GENERAL CONTINUES WITH THREE STAR SUCCESS! Posted on Monday 28th December, 2009

Showjumping Puhinui

Henton Attorney General and Lizzie Brown finished their second three star event at Puhinui again up in the placings with a well deserved third. They held second place after the dressage on a penalty score of 50.2 behind the very experienced Australian rider Stuart Tinney on his grey Watermark Grayson on 48.7. These two were well ahead of the third place getter who was on 61.7. Come cross country day Frank overjumped the huge palisade which made getting control back for Lizzie difficult for the next combination of skinny fences and they incurred 20 penalties. But in form Frank show jumped clean and was ahead enough after the dressage and clean showjumping to end up in third place. Also notable was the fact that Underdiscussion, capably ridden by Donna Smith, who was first in the two star at Richfields was again first in the two star at Puhinui. Underdiscussion is also a registered branded Hanoverian.

Richfields vitory gallop Low Res

Henton Attorney General and Lizzie Brown, at their first three star eventing start, won decisively at the Richfields Horse Trial over the weekend. Frank and Lizzie were second after the dressage, which was commendable, considering his first start at this FEI test. They still held second after a cross country track which saw half the three star field walk home. Frank showjumped clear putting the presure on the leading combination, who dropped two rails to give them the win !!! Congratulations Lizzie and Frank !!! It was also notable that the Two Star was also won by a Hanoverian - Underdiscussion ridden by Donna Smith and the One Star was won by another Hanoverian - Adelphi ridden by Johnathon Pagent. HENTON ATTORNEY GENERAL AND LIZZIE HOME FROM SUCESSFUL CAMPAIGN Posted on Saturday 11th July, 2009

Puhinui Dressage

Lizzie and Frank are home after a most sucessful campaign in Australia. In their first start at Camperdown, as part of the Young Rider Transtasman team, the pair won the individual two star event and helped the Kiwi team to a resounding win over the Australian team (full report of this earlier). The pair then went on to contest the two star in Sydney. After a long haul from Adelaide Frank was given a couple of easy days - but Lizzie found out that he was taking everything in his stride, not needing an easy time and was uncharacteristically "naughty" in the dressage to finish that phase way down. But in true form, jumped his way up to finish 4th overall. His next start was at Weribee in Melbourne again at two star. Lizzie was not to make the same mistake again and Frank was leading after the dressage, ahead of some notable Australian representative competitors. This lead was held after a faultless crosscountry. Going into the testing showjumping, the combination almost had the title in the bag until the last show jump fence where they collected faults, but still finished a very credible 3rd. Frank has just completed a rest after returning home and is back in light work rearing to go Lizzie says. We look forward to following them when the season commences here again.

HENTON ATTORNEY GENERAL AND LIZZIE BROWN TAKE 2* COMPETITION IN AUSTRALIA AND TEAM GIVE THE AUSSIES A RIDING LESSON! Posted on Sunday 26th April, 2009

Frank @ Camperdown

The serious consistent eventing combination of Lizzie Brown and Henton Attorney General took top individual honours, from 30 starters, at Camperdown, Victoria, Australia, in the 2* horse trial recently. Lizzie was also riding for the New Zealand Young Rider team, who also showed the Australian Young Rider Team how to do it! Frank and Lizzie were 3rd individually after dressage, but came up to 1st after a stunning faultless cross country round over a course that asked some questions. The pair then went on to show jump clear to hold the top honors! The New Zealand team was 6.8 point behind after the dressage but all 5 members cross countried stunningly with only 2 time penalties to add to their dressage scores across the entire team of Lizzie, Simon Gordon (captain), Jessie Campbell, Helen Bruce and Ashley McKinstry. All the Kiwis show jumped clear to win the Trans Tasmen competition convincingly. Lizzie and Frank now stay on in Australia for some further competitions.

HENTON EXCLUSIVE COMES FROM NOWHERE TO SHINE AT TAUPO IN THE SHOW JUMPING BREEDERS SHOW Posted on Sunday 26th April, 2009

Six year old Henton Exclusive ridden by Rachel McGregor for Henton Lodge, is in her first year of show jumping. Rachel decided to compete the mare in the six year old class on the first and second days finishing with two clear rounds. This took the pair through to the final day, one of only six combinations to go through with no faults. In the final they were one of only three to complete the course and get into the jump off. Unfortunately the lack of milage for the combination at this height caused miscommunication and a stop which relegated them to 5th overall - but not a rail was taken in the four rounds! A very creditable placing considering the lack of experience this combination has and most of the six year olds in the final had been competing at this level all season. Claire Wilson was so impressed with her she is written up in her "Jump-off" column in the May issue of the Horse and Pony magazine, page 107. We look forward to the combination next year in the seven year old series.

We wish her all the best for the coming season - she will have a Henton horse in each of the 5, 6 and 7 year old series!

FIRST PLACE FOR HENTON EXCLUSIVE AT HORSE OF THE YEAR !!! Posted on Sunday 26th April, 2009

20_21_Henton008

Henton Exclusive, the small but beautiful package by the jumping sensation in Germany, Escudo I (see Bloodlines) from the renowned broodmare Delphi (see News) took the top honours in the Sport Horse Jumping class at the Horse of the Year Show. In an extremely strong field of entrants that also included John Twomey on the imported stallion Don Quatro and the famous Lindberg des Hayettes with Sam McIntosh, this very special mare, ridden by Rachel McGregor, wowed the two German judges to take top honours! Also in the line up in the jumping class was Henton Enccore taking third place also ridden by Rachel McGregor. Then Henton Exclusive went on to take the Reserve Champion Adult Sport Horse to bring home to Henton Lodge one of the coverted sashes. Henton Encore by El Bundy from the grand prix showjumping mare Distancia, by Distelfink, won the Style Jumping class at the renowned Breeders show held recently in Taupo. Eligh, to his friends, is owned and ridden by Rachel McGregor. Rachel says there were 30 something entrants in the class and for the inexperienced four year old to take the title, judged by Merran Hain was quite a thrill ! Especially as the horse even dropped a rail and still won - Merran told Rachel the rail was her fault and the horse showed such exceptional jumping technique he had to be placed first. Henton Encore also enjoyed success at the Horse of the Year show in being placed 3rd in the sport horse jumping class.

At the recent Parade of Hanoverians held at Abderry and presided over by Dr Jochen Wilkens representing the German Hanoverian Society, our colt foal by For Edition from the Anamour mare Henton Anastasia was crowned the Champion foal of the day. Dr Wilkens was most impressed with this For Pleasure great grandson, conceived via frozen semen, saying he was most upstanding, with correctness of type and outstanding paces. He achieved 8.5 for his conformation, 8.5 for his trot and 9 for his walk, all out of a possible 10. This foal is bred along strong jumping lines but with the Anamour influence will also produce dressage for the serious event rider. This foal is for sale.
